The end of December of 1968 had really bad weather. Low clouds were over testing airfield in Zhukovsky. But they kept calling from Ministry „Ensure the first flight before the New Year Eve!” And such a rush wasn’t for nothing.
It would be a debut of the supersonic passenger airliner TU-144… At the same time British-French „Concord” was preparing for the first flight too. It was important to be faster than competitors. Prestige of the Soviet country was on stake. 31 of December, at the last day of the year, the TU-144 took off… This airplane wrote History as the first in the World supersonic passenger airliner. Civil aviation was in front of totally new level…
